1. Overview

BirthdayBell (“the App”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) is a birthday reminder application designed to help you keep track of your friends’ and contacts’ birthdays and send you timely notifications. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use our App.

We are committed to protecting your privacy. BirthdayBell is designed with a privacy-first approach: your data is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.

By using BirthdayBell, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

2. Information We Collect

BirthdayBell collects only the minimum information necessary to provide its core functionality.

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

• Friends’ names and birthday dates that you enter manually into the App.
• Custom notification preferences (e.g. how many days before a birthday to be reminded).
• App settings and preferences you configure within the App.

2.2 Information Imported from Your Contacts

If you choose to use the “Import Contacts” feature, the App will request access to your device’s Contacts. With your explicit permission, we may access:

• Contact names.
• Birthday dates stored in your contacts.
• Phone numbers and email addresses (displayed within the App for your reference only).

This information is imported and stored solely on your device. We do not upload, transmit, or share your contacts data with any third party or external server.

2.3 Notification Data

The App schedules local push notifications on your device based on the birthday dates you have saved. This is handled entirely on-device using Apple’s local notification framework (UNUserNotificationCenter). No notification data is sent to external servers.

2.4 Information We Do Not Collect

BirthdayBell does not collect:

• Account information or user credentials (no login required).
• Location data.
• Device identifiers or advertising identifiers.
• Usage analytics or behavioural tracking data.
• Health or sensitive personal data.
• Payment or financial information.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information stored in the App solely to provide its core features:

• To display upcoming birthdays on your home screen.
• To schedule and deliver local birthday reminder notifications to your device.
• To display friend contact details within the App for your reference.
• To apply your settings and preferences within the App.

We do not use your information for advertising, marketing, profiling, or any purpose beyond the direct functionality of the App.

4. Data Storage and Security

4.1 Local Storage

All data entered into or imported by BirthdayBell is stored locally on your device using Apple’s standard secure storage mechanisms. Your data never leaves your device and is not stored on any server operated by us or any third party.

4.2 iCloud Backup

If you have iCloud Backup enabled on your device, your App data may be included in your iCloud backup as part of your device backup. This is controlled entirely by your iCloud settings and Apple’s infrastructure. We do not control what Apple stores in your iCloud backup. Please refer to Apple’s Privacy Policy for information about how Apple handles your iCloud data.

4.3 Security Measures

We rely on the security protections built into the iOS operating system, including app sandboxing and data protection APIs, to safeguard your data. You should also protect your device with a passcode or biometric authentication to prevent unauthorised access.

5. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, share, or disclose your personal information to any third party. Your data is not shared with:

• Advertisers or ad networks.
• Analytics providers.
• Data brokers.
• Social media platforms.
• Any other third party for any commercial or non-commercial purpose.

We may disclose information only if required to do so by law, court order, or other legal process, or if necessary to protect the safety of our users or the public. Since we do not hold your data on our servers, we have no user data to provide in response to such requests.

6. Third-Party Services

BirthdayBell uses the following Apple system frameworks only. No third-party SDKs, analytics libraries, or advertising frameworks are included in the App:

• Apple Contacts Framework — to read contact data with your permission, on-device only.
• Apple UserNotifications Framework — to schedule local push notifications, on-device only.
• Apple SwiftUI / UIKit — standard iOS interface frameworks.

The App is distributed through the Apple App Store. Apple may collect certain information related to your device, purchases, and use of the App Store in accordance with Apple’s own Privacy Policy.

7. Permissions We Request

BirthdayBell requests the following system permissions:

7.1 Contacts Access

Purpose: To allow you to import contact names and birthdays into the App via the “Import Contacts” feature. This permission is optional. You can use the App by entering birthday data manually without granting Contacts access. You may revoke this permission at any time in your iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Contacts.

7.2 Notifications

Purpose: To deliver local birthday reminder notifications to your device. This permission is recommended for the App to function as a birthday reminder tool. Notifications are generated entirely on your device and are not sent via any external server. You may manage notification permissions in iOS Settings > Notifications > BirthdayBell.

8. Children’s Privacy

BirthdayBell is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The App does not require account creation and does not transmit any data, so there is minimal risk of children’s data being processed. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us and we will take appropriate action.

9. Your Rights and Choices

Because all your data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over it at all times:

• Access: You can view all data stored in the App at any time within the App itself.
• Correction: You can edit any friend’s name, birthday, or settings directly in the App.
• Deletion: You can delete individual friends or all data by deleting the App from your device.
• Contacts permission: You can revoke Contacts access at any time via iOS Settings.
• Notifications: You can disable or customise notification settings via iOS Settings > Notifications.

If you are a resident of the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or California, you may have additional rights under GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA respectively. Since we do not collect or process your personal data on our servers, the majority of these rights are exercised directly on your device. Please contact us if you have any questions.

10. Data Retention

Your data is retained on your device for as long as you use the App and have not deleted it. When you delete the App from your device, all locally stored App data is permanently deleted. We do not retain any copies of your data.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the effective date at the top of this document and, where appropriate, through an in-app notification or App Store release notes. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
